Overview

Scanline Heroes is a multi-show live streaming network on Twitch and YouTube, built around retro gaming and the culture that comes with it.

It started as a handful of retro game streamers, each with their own Twitch or YouTube channel and their own style. They weren't shows yet, just one person in front of a camera playing a game. We built each show from scratch with its own format, segments, logo, and music, and turned those channels into appointment style programming.

As co-founder and creative producer, I led the brand identity, content strategy, and live production workflow.

The Challenge

Standing out in a saturated market.

Gaming content is everywhere, and most of it is raw gameplay and low effort compilations. We wanted a channel that celebrated classic games and still gave viewers a modern, engaging experience across live streams, interviews, and short form video.

With multiple streamers and varied content, we needed a unified visual system and a consistent production structure to connect every show under one recognizable brand.

Brand Recognition

Develop a distinctive visual identity viewers instantly recognize and associate with quality.

Production Quality

Elevate the shows beyond standard gameplay captures with polished graphics, editing, and live production.

Brand System

One mark. A color pair for every show.

I started with a single mark, the shield, in red and blue for the network. Every show then got its own pair of colors on the same shield, so each one has its own personality and still reads as Scanline Heroes.

Show Lineup

Four weekly shows, a time slot viewers could count on.

My graphic designer and I designed each show's logo from scratch, based on the show's concept. Every show kept its own personality inside the network look, and every host got a pixel character that ties them back to the brand.

My Role

I led the creative vision and kept every show running, from brand to broadcast.

Creative Direction & Branding

I defined the brand aesthetic, visual tone, and creative identity, and directed how it came to life across every show. I partnered with our graphic designer on the logos, overlays, and channel art, and I created all of the motion graphics and animation: the animated network intro that opens every stream, each show's intro, the animated segment intros, and the transitions.

Production Leadership

Managed multi-show programming, built the weekly streaming schedule, and coordinated hosts and creators so the channel stayed live and consistent.

Content Development

Produced and edited video segments and promos for every show.

Talent Collaboration

Worked closely with each host to refine their on camera presence and build their own sub-brand inside the network.

Technical Production

Built and ran the live broadcast setups, managed the audio and video flow, and handled post production for every YouTube release.

Results

One recognizable brand across every show and platform.

Beyond the Stream

The shows grew big enough to spin off into their own products. Our merch shop carries 25 designs built from the shields and host characters. The 80's Bros also made the jump to games. 80's Bros. vs the Horde of Chewbaccy Balboa is a proof of concept game demo based on the show, with gameplay and music by me and graphics and story by Ken. Our second game, Do You Even 80's, Bro?, has a playable demo of its first level.

Takeaway

This project deepened my passion for creative producing, where visual design, storytelling, and team collaboration meet.

Scanline Heroes sits at the intersection of art direction, technical production, and community driven content. It's a model I keep evolving in my creative career.
